This Privacy Statement applies to customer information that we collect through our brand websites, including our Carolina®, Gourmet House®, Mahatma®, Minute®, River®, RiceSelect®, Success® and Water Maid® brand websites (hereinafter, “Websites”), as well as information you provide to us directly as well as information we collect from third parties. For purposes of this Privacy Policy, “Websites” includes social media platforms.
What information does Riviana Foods Inc. collect? We collect the following types of information:
- Contact information (such as name, address, city, state, zip code, email address and telephone number)
- Information that you choose to provide when signing up for promotions, clubs, and taste tests (such as your birth date, household information, income, marital status, and education)

This Privacy Statement applies to the collection, use, and disclosure of information from and about customers by Riviana Foods Inc. on this website, through social media platforms, and through telephone, email communications, and other sources. This Privacy Statement does not apply to third party websites that may be accessible through hyperlinks on this Website, which have their own privacy policies that we encourage you to review. Linking to a third party site does not mean that we endorse the site, any products or services described on the site, or any other material contained in a third party site. We may collect this information when you provide it on our Websites, our social media platforms, in telephone or email communication, in connection with our social networking, or at one of our events. When you visit the Websites, we may also collect certain information about your device or usage by automated means or by using technologies such as cookies, web server logs, and web beacons.
2b. What types of personal information? You may choose to provide personal information to us in a number of ways, such as when you participate in an offer or promotion or subscribe to a brand newsletter. The types of personal information you may provide to us include:

When you visit this Website or our online advertisements, utilize our services, open an email that we send you, or interact with social networking applications, we may collect information about your usage or device by automated means or by using technologies such as cookies, web server logs and web beacons. As set forth in more detail below, we may also collect information about your usage and browsing habits using various web-based technologies.
- Cookies: Cookies are small text files that websites send to your computer or other Internet-connected device to uniquely identify your browser or to store information or settings in your browser. Your browser may tell you how to be notified when you receive certain types of cookies and how to restrict or disable certain cookies. Please note, however, that without cookies you may not be able to use all of the features of our Website. We use “cookies” to remember user preferences, to maximize the performance of our website and services, and to enhance your user experience. We may use cookies that are managed by Riviana Foods Inc. or by third parties for the purposes provided below, including session management, authentication, Website analytics, advertising (including affiliate marketing but not cross-context behavioral advertising, content management, eCommerce, search, and social media integration.
- Web server logs: In conjunction with obtaining information through cookies, our web servers may log details such as your operating system type, browser type, domain, and other system settings, as well as the language your system uses and the country and time zone in which your device is located. The web server logs also may record information such as the address of the web page that linked you to our Website and the IP address of the device you use to connect to the Internet.
- Web beacons & pixels: To control which web servers collect information described above, we may place tags on our Website or in emails called “web beacons” or “pixels.” These are computer instructions that link web pages to particular web servers and their cookies. Web beacons and pixels can be used to track the pages you view, links that you click, or other online behavior. These tools may also be used to measure the effectiveness of our email campaigns by identifying the individuals who open or act upon an email message, when an email message is opened, how many times an email message is forwarded, the type of software, device, operating system and browser used to deliver the email, and any URL accessed through our email message. Such technologies may permit collection of data elements such as demographic data, browser type, MAC address and other device information, IP address, pages visited, whether you have visited us before or are new to the Website, activities conducted on the page (such as search queries), and the day and time of your visit. We will ask for your consent before collecting location data.
At this time, we do not honor “do not track” signals from website browsers. However, you may refuse or delete cookies. If you refuse or delete cookies, some of the functionality of our Websites may be impaired. If you turn off cookies, Web beacon and other technologies will still detect visits to our Websites, but the information they generate cannot be associated with other non-identifiable cookie information and are disregarded. 4. How does Riviana Foods Inc. share my information? We may share your information with affiliated companies and distributors. For example, entities that provide web hosting and marketing services.
We may use third party web analytics services such as Google Analytics on this Website or on social medial platforms. The service providers that administer these services use technologies such as cookies, web server logs and web beacons to help us analyze how visitors use the Websites. The information collected through these means (including IP address) is disclosed to these service providers, who use the information to evaluate use of the Website.
We also may contract with third-party advertising networks that collect IP addresses and other information through the use of cookies, web server logs and web beacons on our Websites and emails; on third-party websites and emails; and on our advertising placed on third-party websites. They use this information to provide advertisements about products and services tailored to your interests (including for companies not affiliated with us). You may see these advertisements on other websites. This process also helps us manage and track the effectiveness of our marketing efforts.
In addition, we may share your information if necessary to protect the safety, property, or other rights of us, our customers, or employees, or when otherwise required by law. We may also share your personal information with your consent in certain circumstances.
We reserve the right to transfer personal information we have about you in the event we sell, transfer, or engage in another transaction involving all or a portion of our business or assets, or undertake another form of corporate change. Following such a sale, transfer, or transaction, or corporate change, you may contact the entity to which we transferred your personal information with any inquiries concerning the processing of that information.
5. What about Riviana Foods Inc.’s social media platforms? Our Websites’ web pages may embed plugs-ins, widgets or other apps of various social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Instagram, and YouTube. An example of such a plug-in is Facebook’s “Like” button. When you encounter those embedded objects, your internet browser may make a direct connection to the social media platform’s service and may share with the social media platforms information such as which of our Websites you have visited. Our Websites may also be made available through third party social media platforms.
Your use of services on third party social media platforms are governed by the privacy statement and other terms of use for that third party social media platform, until such information is shared with us, and then such information is also subject to this Privacy Statement.
6. Is my information secure? Riviana Foods Inc. will take reasonable precautions to protect your information from loss, misuse or alteration. Please be aware, however, that any email or other transmission you send through the Internet cannot be completely protected against unauthorized interception.
7. Does Riviana Foods Inc. collect information from children? Riviana Foods Inc. does not intentionally collect personal information from children under 13 years of age, and children under age 13 should not submit any personal information to us. If we become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, or a parent or guardian of a child contacts us through the contact information provided below, we will use reasonable efforts to delete the child’s information from our databases.
8. What choices do I Have? How can I contact Riviana Foods Inc.? We want to communicate with you about our brand and our products, but only in the ways that you agree to hear from us. You may “opt-out,” or unsubscribe from our newsletters, special offers or discounts, or other marketing communications by following the unsubscribe instructions in any e-mail or other communication you receive from us. After doing so, you will not receive future promotional emails unless you open a new account, enter a contest, or sign up to receive newsletters or emails. You may also continue to receive non-marketing communications about your account or purchases that you have made. Please allow up to 2 weeks to process your request.
We do not engage in cross-context behavioral advertising. This means that you may receive advertising on our website or other websites that are tailored to how you browse or shop. Riviana Foods Inc. is committed to working with consumers to obtain a fair and rapid resolution of any queries, complaints, or disputes about privacy.

9. I Live in California – What about my California Privacy Rights?
If you reside in the United States in the state of California, we are required by California law to provide you with information about how we use and disclose your information, and what your rights are with regard to how we use your information. We have included this California-specific information below.
CA Personal Information. We collect certain categories and specific pieces of information about California residents that are considered “Personal Information” in California (“CA Personal Information“). Specifically, we may collect the following types of CA Personal Information:
- Identifiers: name, address, telephone number, email address, age, date of birth, username and password for our websites, IP address;
- Commercial information: products or services purchased, obtained or considered, other purchasing or consuming histories or tendencies;
- Internet or other electronic network activity information: computer and connection information, statistics on page views, traffic to and from the websites, ad data and other standard weblog information;
- Geolocation information: physical location information through the use of our website, services and/or products; and
- Inferences drawn from the information collected.
Sources. We collect certain categories of CA Personal Information from you and other third parties. The categories of third parties from whom we collect CA Personal Information include the following:
- Third-party partners (e.g., distributors, marketing agencies, retailers);
- Third party applications (including social media apps or support centers);
- Advertising networks; and
- Other companies or organizations, such as market research firms or data aggregators.
Purposes. We collect the CA Personal Information for the business purposes as described above in section 3 “How does Riviana Foods Inc. use my information?,” we may disclose your CA Personal Information with third party partners, public or government authorities and future business partners for our business purposes. As described above, examples of business purposes include helping to establish and verify the identity and eligibility of users; opening, maintaining, administering, managing, and servicing users profiles; conducting special events, sweepstakes, surveys, programs, taste tests, contests, and other offers (and communicating with you about such events); analyzing and improving our products, services, or Websites. We do not collect or use your CA Personal Information for commercial purposes.
Disclosure of CA Personal Information. We may disclose the categories of California Personal Information described above for the business purposes described above to:
- Third party service providers that perform data processing activities on our behalf, and subject to appropriate privacy and security obligations;

- We may also disclose Identifiers, Internet or other electronic network activity information, and Geolocation data for the commercial purposes described above to third party service providers and social media and ad networks.
Retention of CA Personal Information. We typically retain CA Personal Information related to marketing activities for as long as you accept marketing communications from us. For CA Personal Information that we collect and process for other purposes described above, we typically retain such CA Personal Information for no longer than for the period necessary to fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Statement and as otherwise needed to address tax, corporate, compliance, litigation, and other legal rights and obligations.
California Consumer Rights. Subject to certain exceptions, as a California resident, you have the right to request: (i) deletion of your CA Personal Information; (ii) correction of inaccurate CA Personal Information; (iii) the right to know/ access the categories of CA Personal Information that we collect about you, including the specific pieces of CA Personal Information; (iv) the categories of CA Personal Information disclosed for a business purpose; and (v) information about the categories of CA Personal Information about you that we have shared and the categories of third parties to whom the CA Personal Information was shared.
Exercising Your Rights. If you are a California resident and wish to request the exercise of these rights as detailed above or have questions regarding the CA Personal Information collected or shared with third parties, please see the “Contact us” section below if you have questions, email us at info@riviana.com or call us toll free at 1-800-624-2862. When submitting your request, please include the specific nature of your request, referencing “Your California Privacy Rights,” as well as your first and last name, email address, and zip code or mailing address. We may apply any exceptions or other conditions available under law when responding to correction, deletion, or other requests. We will generally fulfil requests for access, correction, and deletion within 45 days of receiving a valid request. We may extend the respond time by another 45 days by notifying the individual of the time extension.
Authorized Agents. To the extent that you elect to designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, they must provide appropriate documentation including written signed permission from you, proof of your identity, and verification of their identity; or a valid, designated power of attorney as defined under the California Probate Code.
Financial Incentive. If we engage in a financial incentive, we will provide you with separate notice and obtain your consent.
In addition, we have configured our cookie management tool to honor opt-out preference signals sent by Global Privacy Control (“GPC”) within the browser. Due to technical limitations, the GPC signal is only honored within the particular browser. Beyond GPC, we do not currently respond to web browser “do not track” signals or other mechanisms that indicate your preference for not having information collected over time and across different Web sites or digital apps following your visit to one of our Sites. We will not discriminate against you by offering you different pricing or products, or by providing you with a different level or quality of products, based solely upon this request.

Applicant and Recruiting Privacy Notice
This statement applies to applicant information that Riviana Foods Inc. (“Riviana,” “we,” “us,” “our,” or “company”) collects through the career portal within the Riviana® website, as well as information you provide to us directly as well as information we collect from third parties.
1. What Personal Information do we collect?
Riviana collects and uses, and otherwise processes the following categories of Personal Information in consideration of your potential employment at Riviana:
- Contact information, such as personal and business address, and personal and business phone/fax numbers and email addresses;
- Personal identification information, such as name; and
- Employment qualifications information, such as certificates and degrees obtained, languages spoken and skills, software experience, professional memberships, summaries of strengths and technical areas of expertise, pre-Riviana work history information (previous employers and positions held, dates, locations, supervisors, responsibilities, salary), resume and cover letter information, references and information obtained from them, and related background check (to the extent permitted, and in accordance with applicable law).
Personal Information will be collected directly from you through our service provider, ApplicantStack, via your resume, as well as from authorized third parties (e.g., people you have named as your references, previous employers, schools, public authorities, or public resources), subject to the requirements of applicable law.
In general, you are required to provide the Personal Information, except in limited instances when we indicate that certain information is voluntary. Not providing your Personal Information may prevent Riviana from carrying out recruiting and hiring activities that impact your potential employment with us.
2. For what purposes and on what bases do we use and process . Personal Information?
Riviana will process Personal Information for the following purposes:
- Recruiting and hiring activities, including administering your recruitment, making a hiring decision (including assessing qualifications, tracking candidates during the application process, and carrying out interviews), verification of credentials and prior employment history, performing background checks where permitted by applicable law, and completing the hiring process in case you should be offered and accept a position with Riviana (including activities related to on-boarding and the new hire process, which will require providing additional personal identification information); and
- Complying with applicable laws and employment-related requirements along with the administration of those requirements, including record keeping and reporting for human rights, employment equity, and local regulations (where applicable).
3. Under what conditions is Personal Information transferred to other recipients?
You should expect that the company may transfer your Personal Information to third parties as follows:
- Within the Riviana group of companies. We share your Personal Information amongst the Riviana group of companies, as necessary for the processing purposes, and in particular to conduct recruiting and hiring activities, and respond to and comply with requests and legal demands. If you transfer to another company within the Riviana group of companies, we may send, at the request of your new employer, your personnel file to your new employer, so that it may administer your new employment relationship;
- With certain acquiring or acquired entities. If the Riviana business for which you submitted your Personal Information, in relation to your interest for an employment position, is sold or transferred in whole or in part or if Riviana is acquiring and integrating another entity into the Riviana entity or business for which you applied for an employment position, your Personal Information may be transferred to the other entity prior to the transaction (e.g., during the diligence phase) or after the transaction, subject to any rights provided by applicable law, including the laws of the jurisdictions where the other entity is located; and
- With data processors. Certain third party service providers such as IT support or HR support providers, whether affiliated or unaffiliated, will receive your Personal Information to process such data under appropriate instructions (“Data Processors“) as necessary for the processing purposes, in particular to conduct recruiting and hiring activities, comply with applicable laws and employment-related requirements, and other activities. These Data Processors will be subject to contractual obligations to implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to safeguard the Personal Information, and to process the Personal Information only as instructed.
Note that any access to your Personal Information is restricted to those individuals that have a need to know in order to fulfill their job responsibilities. Riviana may also disclose your Personal Information as required or permitted by applicable law to governmental authorities, courts, external advisors, and similar third parties.
4. For how long does Riviana retain my Personal Information?
Your Personal Information is stored by Riviana, and/or our service providers, strictly to the extent necessary for the performance of our obligations and strictly for the time necessary to achieve the purposes for which the Personal Information is collected, in accordance with applicable data protection laws. When Riviana no longer needs to use your Personal Information, we will remove it from our systems and records and/or take steps to properly render it unintelligible so that you can no longer be identified from it (unless we need to keep your Personal Information to comply with legal or regulatory obligations to which Riviana is subject). Riviana will generally retain your Personal Information in accordance with the applicable Riviana record retention schedule, unless retention for a longer period is warranted due to a legal requirement, including the need to support or defend a legal claim that is not yet barred by the applicable statute of limitations.
If you accept an offer from Riviana, your Personal Information will be retained for the duration of your employment with Riviana and as necessary in accordance with applicable law and the applicable Riviana record retention schedule.
5. What are my rights?
Pursuant to applicable data protection law, you may also have the right to: (1) request access to your Personal Information; (2) request rectification of your Personal Information; (3) request erasure of your Personal Information; (4) request restriction of processing of your Personal Information; (5) request data portability of your Personal Information; and/or (6) object to the processing of your Personal Information. Please note that these aforementioned rights might be limited under the applicable state privacy law.

7. California Applicant Data Protection Notice
Effective January 1, 2023, the California Consumer Privacy Act (“CCPA“) and the California Privacy Rights Act (“CPRA“) (collectively, “California Privacy Law“) require the provision of a privacy notice to California applicants using a specified format. This section explains how Riviana uses personal information about California residents who submit their job applications to Riviana (“Applicant Data“) and summarizes the rights available to California residents.
We do not sell your Applicant Data or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not engage in providing financial incentives for the disclosure of California Personal Information.
Categories of Applicant Data
Riviana collects and processes the following categories of Applicant Data, including but not limited to:
- Identifiers;
- Professional or employment-related information;
- Characteristics of protected classes;
- Education information; and
- Inferences drawn from the information collected.
Sources of Applicant Data
We generally receive Applicant Data directly from you or from third parties, that assist with recruitment, such as recruitment agencies and job boards, and other employment-related purposes described below.
Uses of Applicant Data
Riviana will process Applicant Data, including Sensitive Applicant Data, for the following recruitment-related business purposes (“Processing Purposes“):
- Recruiting and hiring activities, including administering your recruitment, making a hiring decision (including assessing qualifications, tracking candidates during the application process, and carrying out interviews), verification of credentials and prior employment history, performing background checks where permitted by applicable law, and completing the hiring process in case you should be offered and accept a position with Riviana (including activities related to on-boarding and the new hire process); and
- Complying with applicable laws and employment-related requirements along with the administration of those requirements, including record keeping and reporting for human rights, employment equity, and local regulations (where applicable).
Please note that Riviana does not use Applicant Data for commercial purposes (i.e., to advance Riviana’s economic interests through marketing or monetization). Additionally, Riviana does not engage in the sale or sharing of Applicant Data as defined under California Privacy Law.
Disclosure of Applicant Data
You should expect that the Company will transfer your Applicant Data to third parties as follows:
- Within the Riviana group of companies. We share your Applicant Data amongst the Riviana group of companies, as necessary for the processing purposes, and in particular to conduct recruiting and hiring activities, and respond to and comply with requests and legal demands;
- With certain acquiring or acquired entities. If the Riviana business for which you submitted your Applicant Data, in relation to your interest for an employment position, is sold or transferred in whole or in part or if Riviana is acquiring and integrating another entity into the Riviana entity or business for which you applied for an employment position, your Applicant Data may be transferred to the other entity prior to the transaction (e.g., during the diligence phase) or after the transaction, subject to any rights provided by applicable law, including the laws of the jurisdictions where the other entity is located; and
- With data processors. Certain third party service providers such as IT support or HR support providers, whether affiliated or unaffiliated, will receive your Applicant Data to process such data under appropriate instructions (“Data Processors“) as necessary for the processing purposes, in particular to conduct recruiting and hiring activities, comply with applicable laws and employment-related requirements, and other activities. These Data Processors will be subject to contractual obligations to implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to safeguard the Applicant Data and to process the Applicant Data only as instructed.
Retention of Applicant Data
Your Applicant Data is stored by Riviana, and/or our service providers, strictly to the extent necessary for the performance of our obligations and strictly for the time necessary to achieve the purposes for which the Applicant Data is collected, in accordance with applicable data protection laws. When Riviana no longer needs to use your Applicant Data, we will remove it from our systems and records and/or take steps to properly render it unintelligible it so that you can no longer be identified from it (unless we need to keep your Applicant Data to comply with legal or regulatory obligations to which the Riviana is subject).
Exercising Your Rights
Subject to certain exceptions, pursuant to California Privacy Law, as a California resident and Riviana’s applicant you may have the right to: (i) deletion of your Applicant Data; (ii) correction of inaccurate Applicant Data; (iii) the right to know/ access the categories of Applicant Data that we collect about you, including the specific pieces of Applicant Data; and (iv) the right to know the categories of Applicant Data disclosed for a business purpose.
You have the right to designate an Authorized Agent. To the extent that you elect to designate an authorized agent to make a request on your behalf, they must provide appropriate documentation including written signed permission from you, proof of your identity, and verification of their identity; or a valid, designated power of attorney as defined under the California Probate Code.
To exercise your rights please initiate your request by sending an email to info@riviana.com. Verbal requests or those made through other means (e.g., email to manager) cannot be honored.
